The Quilter’s Cottage, owned by Bill and Shirley Reed, is a small, quaint, beautiful shop located on Hwy 62, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, in the beautiful Ozark Mountains. The Cottage was designed and built by Bill Reed, and we opened the doors on August 23, 2016.
I took up sewing in 2006 making bags, as a form of therapy to help me thru the rough patches of raising two teenage girls. Then in 2012 my sister in law was showing me her T-shirt quilt made from her son’s T-shirts, who had recently died, and she was so proud of it. Anyway, as we were admiring it, I kept thinking “I could do that”, and as I was thinking this, my husband turned to me and said “you could do that”. So, I went home and made my first T-shirt quilt, and then another, then I started piecing a quilt, and I haven’t stopped yet! Bill started thinking that I needed an outlet for all these things I was making. Well, it just so happened that we owned an old run down building on the busiest road in Eureka Springs, the perfect location for a shop. So, Bill got busy doing what he loved to do and he tore down that old building and built this beautiful little cottage. We have a small classroom and work station upstairs, which allows for more one on one attention from the teacher, and a deck out back that overlooks a tree filled valley giving us a treehouse effect. The men really like sitting out on the deck watching the wild life, while the ladies shop! And since we are a tourist town, I get to meet and share ideas with people from all over the country.
When you get a chance to come to Eureka Springs, be sure and stop in and visit The Quilter’s Cottage.
